Separate long boards, sharp fasteners, treated wood, and reusable pieces before the removal crew arrives. The goal is to give the hauling crew enough detail to assess the work without burying the useful facts.

Make long pieces obvious

Keep long boards and trim visible rather than burying them under bags. Their length affects handling and how the load fits.

Flag nails and sharp edges

Pull or bend exposed fasteners when it is safe to do so. Do not reach blindly into a mixed pile. Tell the crew about hidden nails, broken hardware, or splintered sheet goods.

Identify treated or painted wood

Painted, stained, pressure-treated, and composite materials may follow different disposal paths than clean wood. Keep them distinguishable and ask before assuming they can be recycled.

Separate anything you plan to keep

Create a clear keep zone away from the pickup pile. A strip of tape or a separate wall is more reliable than explaining individual pieces after loading starts.
